Davide Pafumi
bio and more

I am a PhD candidate at the English department of the University of Lethbridge, where I specialize in English and Digital Humanities. My research focuses on the discourse analysis of love in the English later Middle Ages, employing vector space models to explore semantics in medieval literary texts. This work bridges medieval literature, linguistics, and computational methods. Since September 2022, I have been serving as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant for the Humanities Innovation Lab. In this role, I contribute to the Canterbury Tales Project and support teaching activities in the Department of English. Additionally, I am actively involved in academic publishing, serving as subeditor for thre peer-reviewed journals: Digital Medievalist, Digital Studies/Le Champ Numérique, and Vox Medii Aevii. During my academic journey, I had the privilege of researcher (in descending order) as a visiting student at the Santa Fe Institute, the Heidelberg University, and the State Pedagogical Uniersity “K. Minin” of Nizhny Novgorod. During my carreer I accumulated more than 200 hours of hands-on experience with computational tools. I earned a MA with honours from the University of Padua, Italy, and my BA from the University of Messina, both in Modern Languages and Literatures. I am member of different organizations among which: the Medieval Academy of America, the Medieval Association of the Pacific, the International Courtly Literature Society-North American Branch, the Modern Language Association, the Canadian Society for Digital Humanities/Société Canadienne des Humanités Numériques, and the Associazione Italiana di Anglistica. Beyond pure academia, I had been working as a translator since October 2020 and as a teacher of Italian as a Second Language since May 2017. My proficiency in six languages—English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Russian—has enabled me to engage in diverse professional and cultural contexts. Starting in September 2023, I took on the role of Communication Officer for the Union of Lethbridge Graduate Assistants (ULGA), a student-led union affiliated with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). In this capacity, I advocate for the rights and interests of graduate employees, ensuring their voices are heard. If you want to read my posts, check out my blog section, Unsolicited, or my academic (and non-academic) social media. Swing by my Instagram porofile, if you are interested in tormented poetry in various languages from my favorite authors and pictures from places I happened to be.
